Matawan Huskies Travel Softball Club

Matawan Huskies
Travel Softball Club est. 2021
Launched in January 2021 as an extension of Aberdeen-Matawan Youth Athletic Association (AMYAA), the Matawan Huskies' main goal is to provide a developmental opportunity for young female athletes to advance in the game of fastpitch softball, while providing town pride in a collegial, yet competitive environment.
In the fall of 2026, the Huskies will field teams at the 8U, 10U, 12U, 14U, and 16U levels. To be eligible to play on an 8U or 10U team, players are required to register in AMYAA’s spring rec. softball program. Fall rec. participation is optional. In ages 12U & above, playing in the rec. league is suggested but not required. To determine the appropriate age level for your daughter, please see our age chart.
The focus of the Matawan Huskies Travel Softball Club is and always will be player development. Players from neighboring towns are encouraged to tryout and may be selected, based on an individual team's need. Each Huskies team will practice on a town field, one or two times per week and have the ability to participate in local leagues and tournaments, competing against town-level teams at their respective skill levels. Unlike larger club-level organizations that travel far and often, we anticipate that the Huskies will play a more moderate semi-local schedule, allowing the girls to hone their skills in a competitive, but less pressurized environment. We have lots of girls who play other sports, or participate in other activities, so don't let that deter you!
Since its founding, we have had three long term goals:
(1.) To build a positive, community oriented environment that will allow our young athletes to thrive.
(2.) To push for equity in women's sports. To that end, we, along with our sister program, AMYAA, we have developed relationships with town officials, and pushed for overdue improvements to the facilities used by our players. In 2026, these efforts came to fruition with the remodel of our fields at Lloyd Road/Cambridge and Oakshades. For too many years, town girls played at facilities that were inferior to those created for the boys. This will no longer be the case;, and we thank Aberdeen Township leadership for their support.
(3.) To build a pipeline for the school teams, and giving our girls an opportunity to get to know and play with each other for years before they reach middle school. The girls in our program have benefited in many ways, forming strong social bonds, learning about teamwork and advancing their skills - and this past year, our Huskies players made up the vast majority of the middle school and high school team rosters.
In the past six seasons, we've built a great network of dedicated coaches, parents and training partners and currently have over 85 players and close to 25 coaches participating in the program.
